A hack and slash action adventure, set in a fantasy pixel art environment. Play solo or co-op in this adventure from bottom to top of Castle Hammerwatch. Kill hordes of enemies with varied looks and features through four unique environments with traps, hidden secrets and puzzles.
A mysterious castle lurks ahead. Come on gang, let’s explore it!
Hammerwatch is an action rpg where you moe around taking on hordes of enemies while exploring various maps. It feels heavily inpsired by Gauntlet, and in this case it’s not a bad thing. The game features both local and online multiplayer as well, though I’ve found the online community to be unwelcoming.
As you explore the maps, you will come across various secrets and hidden items. These will help in various ways, from helping you heal to powering up your skills. There are also swarms of enemes, some more devastating than others.
Strangely, 1.3.1 doesn’t work for me. I have to stay on 1.3. I can’t get a latch on the reason either, it just segfaults while loading. However, that is also the only bug I’ve managed to come across.
Overall, I’d give Hammerwatch a rating of Toast. It’s well made, but the single player feels lacking, and the online community is a little hostile to people who aren’t on their friends list. The second part also is fixable via the “Private Room” button, but oh well. If you have a few controllers and some friends though, pick it up and have fun.
