They Bleed Pixels is a fiendishly difficult action platformer inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and classic horror.
After adjusting my glasses, I take a closer look at you. “It’s a simple case of Eldritch Horror. A quick bleed and you’ll be right as rain.”
They Bleed Pixels is a hardcore platformer action game. Each level is designed to frustrate you and make you master it to proceed. There is no actual difficulty curve, they punish you right out the bat. The game is controlled via either gamepad or the arrow keys and z x c. The controls feel pretty good, but in a hardcore platformer, they better.
They Bleed Pixels has a “simple” story. You are a transfer student at the Lafcadio Academy for Troubled Girls. You stumble across a book in the library with an ominous glowing symbol on it. When you go to sleep, you enter a nightmarish hellscape, and must work your way to the end of the level to wake up.
There aren’t any real bugs that I encountered in the game, but I did want to mention even on the lowest settings I did experience random frame drops. In a game where precision is necessary, this was quite a hindrance and made it much more difficult than it needed to be.
Overall, I give They Bleed Pixels a bread rating. It’s an okay game, and really wants to punish you right off the bat, but that’s all it really is. It feels and plays like another hardcore platformer, making it feel like all the work went into the graphics. If you collect hardcore platformers, pick this up, otherwise, save yourself the frustration.
